People still picture the library as a dusty place where you have to whisper. The reality is very different: these are free, heated spaces with wifi and spots to work or read in peace. Exactly the kind of place you need when you want to get out without spending.

Not just for studying

Beyond the shelves, many venues host workshops, meeting spaces or activities open to everyone. These are called third places: not home, not school, a neutral spot to hang out and create. Great for a group project or just a change of scenery.

How to get started

Check the opening hours and how to sign up - often simple and free for young people. Some cards give you access to online resources from home. Ask the staff: guiding you is literally their job.

The ultimate tip: settle in with friends to revise for an exam. You get more done together, and the calm atmosphere helps you stay focused for longer.
