Internet nostalgia: what is that feeling?
Missing old sounds, old formats, an old web… why it hits so hard.
Internet nostalgia is that little pang when you stumble on an old format, an old sound, or an image style from a few years back. Even though it was 'just' online, it brings back a period, a crew of friends, a vibe.
Why the web ages fast
Online, trends succeed one another at high speed. A format that seemed essential vanishes in a few months, replaced by another. As a result, we pile up 'old' memories very quickly, even though they're barely dated.
Nostalgia is also a creative engine. Many recent contents deliberately recycle old styles to create a shared emotion. It's a way of saying 'remember this?' to a whole generation at once.
A bond that unites
This feeling isn't a weakness: it's what ties a community together around shared references. Sharing nostalgia is recognizing one another. And it shows that the internet, despite its speed, builds real collective memories.
