Viral phenomena all seem new, yet they often fall into the same broad categories. Recognizing these categories helps you understand what scrolls past and not be caught off guard every time.

The recurring molds

There's the challenge, where everyone redoes the same action their own way. There's the twist, where a familiar image or sound is reused in an unexpected context. There's also the absurd debate, that kind of trivial question that suddenly divides everyone for fun.

Another big type is the 'so relatable': content that describes a situation lived by lots of people. You recognize yourself, you share, and it spreads. That feeling of 'I'm not the only one who does this' is a very powerful driver.

A phenomenon isn't proof

Careful not to confuse virality with reliability. Some challenges can be risky and other content plays on false info to spread. Have fun with these phenomena, but always keep your critical mind switched on.
