The idea that sport is expensive is a myth kept alive by shop windows and ads. In reality the most accessible activities are often the cheapest, sometimes free. You just need to know where to look and make the right calls at the start.

The free basics

Running, walking, bodyweight training, playing on a public court: all of it costs nothing. And since public transport is free in Luxembourg, getting to a park, a track or a playground doesn't weigh on your budget either.

For gear, aim for used and second-hand rather than top-end new. A decent pair of trainers is plenty at first: no point investing in competition equipment before you even know you love the activity.

Look into support schemes

Some municipalities and youth structures offer low-cost sporting activities or schemes to make sport more accessible. Ask your municipality or a youth house: it's often well worth it.
