Mistakes to avoid when you thrift

Smart thrifting also means knowing what not to do.

Second-hand is full of pleasant surprises, but also of traps easy to avoid. A lot of disappointments come from rushed choices. Knowing the classic mistakes helps you leave with genuinely good pieces.

Buying just because it's cheap

Low prices push you to hoard pieces you'll never wear. A cheap garment that doesn't suit you is still a bad buy. Always ask yourself where and when you'll actually wear it.

Ignoring condition and fit

Don't trust the size label — try things on and check the state of the seams and fabrics. A repair that's too heavy cancels out a good deal. Watch out too for stubborn smells, sometimes hard to get rid of.

Thrifting smart means combining pleasure and judgement. Take your time, be demanding, and you'll build a wardrobe that truly reflects you. The best find is the one you'll still be wearing a year from now.
