Avoiding disinfo: the reflexes that save you
Info that makes you jump deserves a pause. Here's how to check before you share.
Disinformation loves strong emotions: anger, fear, outrage. Info that makes you react very fast is exactly the one to slow down. Your first defense is the pause.
Trace it back to the source
Who says this? Where does the image or quote come from? Real info has a traceable origin. If you can't find any serious source, be wary and don't share.
Cross-check before believing
If information is true and important, several reliable sources cover it. A single spectacular post with no confirmation is a red flag. Cross-checking takes two minutes and saves you many mistakes.
Sharing false info, even unwittingly, feeds its spread. Getting into the habit of checking makes you a healthy link in the chain, not a rumor relay.
