Staying motivated all year: the routine that holds
Motivation fades, but habits stick.
The problem with sport is almost never starting, it's keeping going. The buzz of the first days always fades, that's human. The people who last aren't more motivated than you: they've simply built a solid habit.
Bet on habit, not willpower
Tie your sport to a fixed time and a trigger, like right after school or a specific day of the week. Once the activity becomes automatic, you no longer need to psych yourself up: you just do it. Willpower runs out, habits don't.
Accept the off days too. Missing one session doesn't cancel your progress, but missing three in a row breaks the rhythm. The useful rule: never skip twice in a row. Miss a day, restart the next, no guilt.
Company helps a lot
Moving with a mate or in a club creates a kind of commitment: it's harder to bail when someone's waiting for you. If you struggle to keep the rhythm alone, the social side is often the lever that changes everything.
