Admin online: when your phone replaces the queue
A growing number of official procedures can be done from your sofa. Here is how to start.
For decades, admin meant tickets, counters and lost afternoons. That era is fading: in Luxembourg, a growing share of official procedures can now be done online, from a computer or an app on your phone. For a generation already running its entire life from a screen, this is almost home turf - as long as you know where the door is.
A public counter in your pocket
The way in is the official portal guichet.public.lu: it explains the procedures, lists the documents you need and lets you complete many of them directly online, through your personal space or the mobile app. Applications, forms, tracking your file: things that once required a trip can often be handled from home, whenever suits you - including at midnight on a Sunday.
Proving who you are, once and for all
To do serious admin online, you need to be able to prove who you are. That is what digital identity is for: a secure means of authentication you activate once and then use across your entire administrative life. Setting it up takes a small effort at the start, but it is an investment: every procedure after that becomes noticeably faster.
Where to start
The best way to start is pressure-free exploration: open the portal, look up a procedure that actually concerns you - housing, studies, work - and simply read the explanation page. You will see every procedure described step by step, with the list of documents to prepare. Get into the habit of scanning or neatly photographing your important papers: a tidy digital folder turns almost any procedure into a formality.
And if a procedure is over your head, nothing forces you to struggle alone in front of your screen: physical counters and helplines still exist. Digital admin has not replaced humans - it has just removed the queue for everything that never needed one. Honestly, no complaints here.
