Learning a language: the mistakes quietly holding you back
Some habits slow you down even though you think you're doing well.
When learning a language, we often fall into the same traps. The first is waiting to be perfect before daring to speak. The result: you pile up theory but stay stuck when speaking, when speaking is exactly how you improve.
The fear of mistakes
Being afraid of mistakes is the best way to never progress. Every error is valuable information showing you what to fix. People are far more forgiving than you imagine, especially when they see you're trying.
Another classic trap: trying to translate everything word for word in your head. Every language has its own logic, and by dragging everything back to yours, you produce clumsy sentences. It's better to learn whole expressions as they are.
Consistency before intensity
Finally, many give up because they go too hard, too fast, then burn out. Ten minutes a day beats one big session followed by a month of nothing. Consistency always beats intensity over time.
