Travelling alone is one of the most powerful experiences you can have young. You decide everything, you learn to fend for yourself, you come back changed. But a few beginner mistakes come up often, and it's better to know them in advance.

Planning everything or nothing

Both extremes cause problems: a minute-by-minute plan stops you enjoying, while zero preparation lands you in trouble. Aim for the middle: lock the key points like transport and the first night's lodging, then improvise the rest. That base frees your mind on site.

Neglecting contact with loved ones

Travelling alone doesn't mean cutting ties. Let someone close know your movements and check in regularly, it protects you and reassures them. Keep your phone charged and a way to reach someone if there's trouble.

The biggest mistake would be never daring to go. Solo travel teaches you a confidence that follows you everywhere afterwards. Prepare well, trust your instinct, and take the leap.
