Handling exam stress and keeping a cool head
Exam stress can be tamed: a few simple habits to stay steady on the big day.
A bit of stress before an exam is normal, and it can even sharpen you up. The problem is when it spills over and stops you thinking. The good news: it's not fate, it can be worked on like everything else.
Prepare your body, not just your head
On exam day, eat something, drink water, and arrive early so you don't have to rush. A calm body helps a calm mind. Breathe slowly for a few seconds before you start: it slows your rhythm and clears your thoughts.
When it gets too much, talk to a pro
If stress truly blocks you, if you can't sleep or the anxiety keeps coming back, it's not something to handle alone in your corner. Talk to a trusted adult, a youth support service, or a health professional. Asking for help is a sign of strength, never weakness.
Remember an exam is a moment, not your whole worth. You are far more than the grade that lands. Do your best, then let go: the rest is out of your hands.
