Spotting sponsored content within trends

Sometimes a 'trend' is actually a disguised ad. Here's how to spot it.

Some trends arise naturally, others are pushed by brands to sell. That's not illegal, but it's better to know when you're being sold something. Spotting it means taking back control.

The clues that betray an ad

A 'collaboration' or 'partnership' label, a product always perfectly framed, enthusiasm that's a little too flawless: these are signals. The law actually requires clearly labeling advertising.

Keeping your critical mind

Liking a product seen in a trend is fine. But remember it's shown to you because someone wants to sell it. Taking time to think before buying saves you many regretted purchases.

Spotting the ad doesn't spoil the fun, it makes it freer. You enjoy the content while keeping your head and your wallet.
